Tokens may assume many manifestations. Though their natures differ, those who study the House speak of four principal archetypes.
Blessings-Quiet gifts from Papa CaYuen. They touch steel, wood, and resin.-brushes, bowls, tools of the ritual. A blessing may lighten the cost, add a token of care, or speed a favored item into your hands.
Favors-Bestowed by the Apothecary. These take the shape of provisions-a sliver of soap, a dram of aftershave, a balm, a tincture. Not payment, but a repayment for atttention.
Omens- These belong to Seer. They do not grant, but fortell. An omen may hint of a coming release, a hidden listing, or a whisper of that which is unknown.-but it demands interpretation.
Keys-The rarest kind of token granted by the House itself. They do not grant things, but passage: a hidden page, a shuttered vault, a powerful item reserved only for the initiated. A key does what it’s nature demands-it opens a door.
Not every token sits neatly in one of these four, but most wander close.
